There are six steps in the production of our “Ghostwood” furniture. “Ghostwood” has natural beautiful character from years of exposure to the sun, wind and weather. It is nature’s art incorporated into our beautiful furniture.

After each structure is dismantled, the “ghostwood” is brought to our facility in Jerome, Arizona and prepared for the grading process. The first step in grading is selection. The “ghostwood” is sifted through, and the initial selections are made outside. These primary selections are moved into the shop for the second level of grading.

It is during the second level of the grading process that our team determines how the “ghostwood” is going to be used and how good the wood is.“Ghostwood” cannot be bought in stores. Every board is different, so it needs to be graded many times throughout the process.

The final step is determining which “Ghostwood” boards will be used in the final furniture. We pull boards that marry together well and all match. The wood for each piece of furniture is hand selected.

The second step is milling. In the milling process, our craftspeople select, cut and stack the wood. The selections are married in a set by the craftsman who will work on the assembly of the furniture.

After we select and mill the Ghostwood, it is time to assemble the final boards and construct the furniture. The furniture is assembled in its raw form. Finishing comes later.
The key to assembly is quality. Because top quality is paramount, we use mortice and tenon joinery for its strength and quality. A mortice and tenon joint is an old-fashioned joint consisting of a tongue fitting into a groove with glue. There are no nails and no other products. Just a wood joint. It is one of the strongest joints available.

After the furniture is assembled it moves into the sanding process. Each piece of Ghostwood furniture is hand sanded. It’s a finesse job and it’s an art form. Hand sanding allows us to create a smooth finish and keep the character of nature’s finger prints on the wood. At the same time we sand it to be extremely smooth with a high-end finish.

We keep the flow and the natural roll of the wood in the final furniture and it really emphasizes the grain that’s been weathered.

Actually, the wood itself is 50 to 100 years old. It came from fantastic trees that produced better wood then than you could buy today. It’s literally the best wood America ever had to offer. It’s all old growth.

After the Ghostwood furniture has been assembled and sanded, it moves to the finishing stage. To give the furniture its high luster we use two coats of lacquer. In between each coat, we sand the furniture.

The finishing process brings out the Ghostwood’s unique color and tone. There are no oils and stains are used. In fact, all boards start out gray and brown. But it’s our artistic process that helps the rich colors jump out.

Now the story is yours. As you move your new furniture into your home, it begins its new life. What you now own is a one-of-a-kind. Although we can build one after another, each one is entirely different. Each ghostwood piece has a different beginning and it’s ending is in your home.
